More photos

I think these photos are a little better!

Done

I finally finished a quilt. This was made using a horizon layer cake and the pattern is from the across the sea quiltalong. I will try and get a better photo before I give it to my friend. My daughter has my tablet that I use to take photos. It is another 50th birthday quilt.
I used a batik I found in spotlight for the back. It is a batik with a right and wrong side and I liked the wrong side more so I used that. It has the colours from the front and works well.

Quilting

Finally I am sewing. Need to quilt this before Christmas.

04 November 2016

Finally some sewing

But not by me. This is my birthday quilt made by a friend. I love it. It is perfect. I cant believe she made it for me. The photo is taken upstairs in our new lounge. There is so much light, it's great. Hopefully I will get to do some sewing soon. It is going to take a while to get organised here and work is busy until December 16. Not that I am counting down the days.

In Perth

I am in Perth visiting my parents for a few days. I bought a quilt to hand sew the binding so will post a photo soon. I have to show this book I sent my parents. My dad has been called grumpy since the first grand child was born 29 years ago. We all buy presents for him that reference grumpy but this time I bought a book for my mum. I couldn't resist it.

17 August 2016

So we bought a house!

Things were busier than usual here with work and then we bought a new house. Same suburb so not a big move distance wise but lots to do on the old house as well as moving to new house. Very exciting. I am hoping to get a little sewing done occasionally.

I have finished a disappearing patch top with a zen chic flow charm pack. Hope to get it quilted soon.

27 July 2016

zen chic batik

I am trying to finish some WIPs even though I don't have a plan for them. In this quilt I used the Play a Card pattern by Zen Chic. I made it a little smaller. The background is silver which does not show in the photo. I need to get a better picture showing the colours.

Repeat quiltalong

I actually made a quilt, although a very mini one, from  one of the quilt a longs I wanted to do. I still have to hand sew the binding but I wanted to take a photo outside while I could. This is the small option of the repeat quilt a long at elm street quilts. I finally used some batiks for a project. I still love batiks but don't seem to use them much at the moment. This is such a cute quilt and very easy. Hopefully I will get a chance to make the larger version.

Sydney Quilt Show

I had a fantastic time at the quilt show in Sydney. It has been a while but I thought I would still post about it. I don't live near a quilt shop so I tend to buy a few things. These are my big buys. I didn't realise until I looked at my stash that my big buys were Australian.

The first is a bundle of old Saffron Craig fabric that I didn't buy a while ago and regretted it. I am so lucky to have found this.

The next is a bundle called Melba by Emma Jean Jansen . My husband loves magpies and we both love Melbourne so this is perfect.

Lastly a restock of Australian fabric as I love to have these ready to use for any project.

Quiltalongs

There are so many quilt a longs I want to do at the moment. Unfortunately it is not summer here and I am the busiest I have ever been at work and we are trying to do things at home so quilting time will be limited. I am going to try and do the mini versions of at least two starting with Elm Street Quilts repeat the quilt a long.

Elm Street Quilts

The other one is The summer solstice quilt a long at Happy Quilting. I am aiming to make the single block mini.

purple

I love purple and couldn't resist this gorgeous mini by Jess at Quilty habit. The pattern is Deconstructed Churn Dash and is found in the free Modern by the yard magazine. I love Churn Dash blocks. I used shot cotton from Spotlight and it is awesome. The photo does not do the fabric justice.

I cant read patterns correctly and cut extra strips so I made a little place mat or big mug rug.

Quilted and binding started

I quilted the triangle challenge quilt and have started with the binding. I really like the finished look.

10 June 2016

Triangle Challenge

I loved Pat Sloan's latest Triangle challenge and decided to do it! First I ordered the book online and then started. I made it one block longer and wider for a 4x4 layout. I love it but it made the flying geese not the right size. I worked out if I took off the one inch border, the sides worked perfectly but not the top and bottom. I really didn't want to change geese size and didn't like any options I came up with so I decided to leave it. I think with black binding will look good. I have started quilting but no way it will be quilted before challenge over.
The lighting is terrible but I took the photo when it was raining non stop for the day.

Another mini

I think I have a problem. I cant stop making mini quilts.

27 May 2016

Testing

I love Eden by Tula Pink. I bought a fat quarter bundle in the Amethyst colour way from the fat quarter shop. Then I bought a fat quarter bundle of all fabric from massdrop. I am planning to make my first queen size quilt. I have ordered 1 yard of this crouching tiger fabric from connecting threads so I figured I could experiment with quilt blocks. I love this. The block finishes at 16 inches and the centre is large enough to feature the tiger.

26 May 2016

Triangle challenge

I have finished the middle of my quilt for Pat Sloan's triangle challenge and love how it looks.  I added an extra block to the rows and added an extra row so it should the right size for a lap quilt once I add the borders.

23 May 2016

Triangle Challenge

I have decided to join Pat Sloan's second triangle challenge. I love the Dandoy Delight pattern and have decided to try a bigger 4 x 4 version using some of my Australian fabrics. There is a very good chance I will not make the deadline but it is worth a shot.

19 May 2016

Not quite finished

I thought this was a finish but have decided it is not. The pattern is from the across the sea quiltalong. I added extra blocks so I thought this was a finish. Now I have had some time to look at it, I think I will add the border after all.

I used Kate Spain Horizon which is gorgeous as all Kate Spain fabric is.

16 May 2016

Austin modern quilt

I finished my top of my Austin Modern Quilt by Carolina squirrel and I love it. It was a great pattern to put together and it looks great. It finishes at 50 x 60 so is a good size too. Not sure when I will actually quilt it but I think straight line quilting will work with this design so I should be able to quilt it myself.

12 May 2016

cushion

I made this for a friends son. He is studying architecture and loves orange so buildings with an orange binding seems perfect. He has made me two great quilt racks so I wanted to make him something.

06 May 2016

fabric pull

These are the fabrics I have decided to use for my Austin Modern quilt. I was limited as I don't have a lot of yardage but I found these which should go with my Eden fat quarter bundle bought to make quilts etc for the master bedroom.

May is for makers

I am going to join the May is for makers campaign started by Lindsey at LRstitched.

May Is For Makers | LRstitched.com

My first buy is the Austin Modern quilt pattern from Carolinasquirrel. I love it and cant wait to start it. Some colours need more than a fat quarter so I will probably have to wait! I am going to go through my stash later today.

Mini Wonky Quilt

My husband loved the quilt I made for my brother so I made him a mini in the same fabrics for our wedding anniversary. It will hang on the wall in my sewing room so it is a joint anniversary gift!
I used the tutorial for a wonky mini charm at Twiggy and Opal. I love Jayne's work and find myself wanting to make all her tutorials.

Another WIP

The last thing I need is to start a new project. But I did. I bought a layer cake of Horizon and some Kona to make a cross quilt based on the Across the Sea quiltalong. I have had this fabric for ages and I decided I wanted to sew with some gorgeous fabric that I loved. So I am.

23 April 2016

WIP

One of two quilts for my brothers twins. The pattern is a freebie by Me and My Sister Designs using a jolly bar. I bought a layer cake and cut it in half. I am using Me and My Sister Designs fabric too

Mini Trees

I have been wanting to make a trees quilt by Amanda Jean at crazy mom quilts for ages. When she put her patterns on sale recently I had to buy one. However I forgot that I decided not to buy the mini because my accuracy is not great and small pieces are not good for me. But after some trimming my tree is almost in the middle! The great thing about this pattern is that the tree uses less than a charm square so I could make this to match minis I have previously given a friend! I also think I could do this block heaps better next time. I am seriously considering making a mini using more blocks.

The fabric is an old Tula Pink my friend will love.

11 April 2016

Cushions from way back

I forgot to take a photo of these cushions I made for Peter. I am staying at his house so I have a chance to show them now. His house is grey with pops of red so I try and use these colours when making things for him.

Edited to add. I forgot to mention my inspiration for these was from a wall hanging by the Silly BooDilly. I prefer her one colour but these go well in his house.

09 April 2016

Grungy Gran

I finished mums quilt and will publish this on Sunday. The pattern is Grunge and is free on the moda website. I love how it looks and want to make it in batiks.

I took a few photos in different light outside to try and show the gorgeous colours. I am posting this now. The party is this afternoon so I don't think Mum will be surfing the net this morning.

Hope you are not sick of this quilt

I finished Peter's quilt and took some photos outside! Hope you are not sick of looking at it.

Something Different

My outrigger club had it's regatta on the weekend. Crews from all over NSW came to compete. It was a great weekend!! Here are a couple of photos of my crew racing.

I am paddling in position 4 in the long sleeve rashie. We are very lucky to have such a great place to paddle.
