I thought I was finished!

I thought I had finished the twin quilts as I decided not to add a border. When I lay them out, I think they need a border. The pattern is a freebie at Me and My sister designs and has a wider border cut at 3.5 inches. I think I will make it the same size as the sashing cutting it at 2 inches

Bloggers Quilt Festival

It is time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side. My entry is a Carolyn Friedlander layer cake pop quilt. This quilt is a Fat Quarter Shop Shortcut Quilt Pattern. It is a very clever pattern. Easy to make and very effective.
I picked the fabrics that I thought my friend would like even though they didn't appeal to me at the time. I do love the finished product.

Modern Maples Placemats

I love the modern maples pattern and have made a table runner and a placemat using the pattern. I made two more recently. I really need to make a quilt with it!

September OMG

My goal this month is to finish the second flimsy. I have twin nieces and would like to give them both a quilt for Christmas this year.

Beachie Blocks

I have made the blocks for my Quilt using the Missouri Quilt Co Window pane 9 patch quilt. I am going to sash the blocks. I used green and blue Layer cake squares from Latitude by Kate Spain cut into charm squares.

August OMG

I did it. I quilted and bound this quilt within the month. I still haven't basted the quilt from the last 2 months so it was a good decision to set a new goal.
Here it is before washing. Once again it is hard to get a good photo showing the colours. It is the blueberry park low volume jelly roll.
I love the fabric on the back although maybe I should have tried to match the circles or as I saw recently added a strip of solid where the backing meets.

Another new project

I love starting new projects and have given up trying to resist. I simply bought more plastic drawers to store my WIPs. I want to make a beachie quilt for a friend and after looking at lots of quilts on pinterest I came up with this design. I used the window pane disappearing 9 patch from Missouri Star Quilt Co and will put wide sashing between each block. I made one test block and I think it will look good.

New Project

So I started another new project. I bought two jolly bars of Zen Chic True Blue  from the fat quarter shop to get the pattern for this quilt. I made so many silly mistakes, putting the half square triangles the wrong way, it was very frustrating. Once I finally got it right it looked great. It is an easy pattern, I was having one of those days!

Kate Spain mini

I have been trying to sort out some of my fabrics, and too many to count UFOs. I found one that was meant to be a lantern quilt but it wasn't going to line up very well so I cut the rectangles into squares and made a rail fence mini. I have been wanting to make a rail fence quilt for a while and this will do for now. I will have to think of something to do with the snowball blocks.

August OMG

A new goal for August which is probably a good thing as I have failed with the same goal the last two months. I needed a quick quilt so I made a jelly roll race quilt with low volume Blueberry Park. I need to finish it and sew on binding before the end of August. Linking to Elm Street Quilts OMG.

Prize

I recently won a $50 gift voucher from Happy Quilting for the Fat Quarter Shop. I decided to use it to indulge and buy a fat eighth bundle of Latitude by Kate Spain. I love all things Kate Spain and I love batiks so this fabric was made for me! I added a jelly roll as postage is a lot to Australia so I like to make it worth it. I am very happy with this purchase although no plans for it yet.

pillow cases

My daughter has had a Winnie the Pooh pillow case since she was a toddler but it has been looking worse each time it was washed and finally fell apart. I did not have enough fabric for a burrito style pillow case and I wanted the fabric to be up the right way. It took me an embarrassingly long time to work out how to do this. I first practised with some batik.

It turned out great!

Debs quilt

One of the reasons we bought this house was the amount of light. In the middle of winter it is great with so much light. It has made it hard to photograph quilts. I have discovered early mornings outside there is enough shade to make it possible to get a photo. I am finally going to give this quilt to my friend so I wanted to try and get a better photo.

July OMG

The same goal as last month although I did have to do some resewing to fix the faded green.

Not even close

My OMG for June was to quilt this quilt top and it didn't happen. I was horrified to find the green had faded on the line it was folded on. Luckily I had some Kona in a similar colour so I replaced it but I am worried about some of my solids. I buy quilters cottons from Spotlight and Lincraft but I have no idea where I bought the fabric I used in the quilt. Now I am putting off the quilting as I hate basting.
I love looking at cross stitch and buying them but not sure if I like doing them as I never seem to finish one. I have put this one on a frame so it is ready to go at all times and hopefully this will make me do it. I have told myself I am not allowed to buy anything cross stitch related until I finish at least one.

quilt show

I had a lot of fun at the show! I didn't buy a lot but I love everything I bought.

Zombie Book and fabric purchases coming up

It has been a great week. I won a $50 fat quarter shop gift voucher from Melissa at Happy Quilting. How exciting as this more than covers shipping to Australia. Even with the exchange rate, fabric is cheaper in the U.S. Tomorrow I am going to the Sydney Quilt Show. I am looking forward to it. We actually have a small local quilt shop now which is great but they don't have a huge selection and as usual in Australia, it is expensive. I am making sure to make some purchases to try and keep it open. It will be great to see so much fabric and quilts all under one roof in Sydney.

I love this  tall tales block by Quilt with Kate. I have no idea what I am going to do with it. I might make a quilt with lots of different books.

Swoon

Finally I have made a Swoon block. Have had a lot of trouble trying to get a good photo showing the colours.
Now I need to decide to make a quilt for our bed using Swoon blocks or Sawtooth stars.

June OMG

Hopefully will get more sewing time this month. I want to quilt this Austin Modern Quilt from May last year. I have bought the backing fabric last year in anticipation of quilting it a lot sooner.
I love this quilt. I picked the colours based on Eden by Tula Pink.

OMG May

OMG for One Monthly Goal or Oh My God how much can it rain in one weekend! The photos are not the best and the colours look a lot darker than they are. The orange looks very red but everyone knows what  Carolyn Friedlander fabric looks like so probably doesn't matter. I will take more photos on a sunny day.

I took a photo outside to see if it was better and it wasn't which is not surprising as the reason we bought this house was how open and light it is. We moved here in September last year so have enjoyed spring, summer and autumn and are looking forward to winter (as much as you can look forward to winter).

mini

I finished my pineapple mini and it is gorgeous. When I make a mini from fabrics I used in a quilt I like to back it with same fabric as the quilt. This is made with some of the fabric and the backing from this quilt

One Monthly Goal

Things have been a little busy and I did not post a monthly goal for April. I have to finish this quilt in May. It is my friends birthday on the 8th of May so I am going to be a little late but if it is finished in her birthday month I will be happy.
So my OMG for May is to quilt and bind this layer cake pop quilt.

New Fabric

The backing fabric has arrived and it is great. Even though the background is cream, the colours are great and I love the design. If I am paying for shipping  I like to order more fabric. I don't have a lot of low volume so I ordered Blueberry Park low volume jelly roll, I bought 2 jolly bars of zen chic so I can make the pattern that comes with the jolly bar and a mini charm pack of modern lustre. I am very happy with my choices!

23 April 2017

waiting for backing

All done and looks good. I have ordered a wide back online and hopefully the colours will work. I don't usually like to use white for background as threads show but my friend loves white background fabric in quilts. I have started trimming threads so will be ready to go as soon as the fabric arrives.

Purple Pineapple

Finally sewing. I spent last week in Perth and now I am home and doing some sewing! Even though Psych has finished for ever, I still have a thing for pineapples. I have loved this mini for a while but not a big yellow fan so decided on a purple pineapple. Mix that with Kate Spain and you have a winner

Coffee

I love the Stars Hollow quilt by Amy at During Quiet time and thought I would make some coffee cups. I simplified the mug as I liked this fabric with only a band. I then chickened out when I looked at the pieces for steam. One day I will try again as I really the like the pattern but I still like it without steam.
